Safe House

The Safe House, aptly named the Arms of Jesus (AOJ), offers immediate shelter to men wanting to break free of the bondage of addiction but lacking a safe place to stay while waiting for space in a Christian recovery program. This program currently serves up to ten men.

Set in rural Ashe County on a 36 acre farm, the Safe House provides nurture and love for men often in physical, emotional, and spiritual pain. The first few days are spent getting better physically, but soon the men begin to fully participate in the Safe House activities. With balanced, healthy food and a Christian environment, men bond together, having morning devotions and light Bible studies as a daily routine. During the day, a light work schedule is followed, often working with the farm animals or helping to maintain the Freedom Farm Ministries’ facilities.

Assistance is provided in obtaining the necessary paperwork and medical tests for entering a Christian recovery program. If needed, help is given in selecting a program best suited for each man. Transportation from the streets to the Safe House and transportation from the Safe House to a Christian recovery program is provided when needed.

Requirements for admission to the Safe House are chemical dependence and a life-threatening condition in the man’s current environment. Men must be very serious and have come to the end of themselves, ready for God to free them and release them from the bondage of addiction. These men are at risk of losing their lives if they remain where they are and continue in drug and/or alcohol use.
